When we were kids there were two words that could bring you to the brink of excitement and dread all at the same time…road trip! My family never flew. Maybe once, maybe. We lived in Florida and the majority of our family lived in Wisconsin so we would all pile into the car and head up to the cold north at least once every two years. It is a 20-hour trip one way. That is a lot for a child. And an adult.

Needless to say, we have spent a ton of time in a car. As kids, my mom was amazing finding ways to have the time go faster. We didn’t have iPads, tablets, or phones so we spent a lot of time singing and playing games. I have reluctantly continued this road trip tradition with my girls. In August of last year, we packed up our car and headed up to Wisconsin. Now my girls were only 3 years old and 3 months old so it was even more intense than I anticipated, but more on that later.

We were able to use some of my mom’s old tricks with some of our new and wonderful technology to help my three-year-old through the worst of the trip. One thing that came in very handy was my new love of Discovery Toys. They have some great options for in-car, non-messy activities for kids of all ages.

Road Trip Activites for Kids
These are some of the coolest road trip activities for the whole family. All brought to you by Discovery Toys

If you are looking for some on the go fun for in the car that is not electronic and involves the whole family. Check out the following:

For Older Kids (5-99)

For Younger Kids (0-5)

See when I said they had quite a few options I wasn’t kidding! There are, of course, other options but I do love this company. One of our favorite games, which is super easy and kids seem to love is road trip bingo! We tend to use Cheerios or piece of candy (like M&M’s) for an added level of fun. The first person who gets Bingo gets to pick the next song on the radio or snack to eat.

It is really easy to make a road trip go fast for kids. You just need some resolve and creativity.

Xoxo,
