I am a very conscious parent meaning I like to parent with intention. That might sound kind of snooty but let me explain. I am very aware of how I raise my girls. I like to make sure that every day they are learning and I am doing my best to expose them to new and fun activities.
My older girl is now 4 and almost ready for 4k starting in just a couple weeks! There are certain milestones she should hit before starting preschool, check out a list here! It is my job as her mommy to make sure she is where she needs to be so she is able to get the best start in her life.
I am lucky, my girl loves to learn but learning at home can get a bit boring. For both of us, if I am being honest. Sitting and going over letters, math problems, and shapes for the 100th time can be a bit mind numbing. To help keep her interested I have sought out new and cool ideas on different platforms. When kids are little they learn simply by having fun. In fact, they learn better when they are having fun.
Pinterest is always a favorite because there are so many great crafts. I love the idea of knowing that they come from a source of true education. I found education.com a little while ago and then was lucky enough to have them reach out wanting to work together!

Watercolor Flower
Looking for a craft that will exercise all parts of your child’s creative side? In this project, the eight petals of a flower are painted in watercolor paint using different techniques, colors and patterns. The center of the flower is filled with a variety of pom-poms, making this flower textured and tactile. While the traditional flower petal shape described here is a daisy petal, your child can exercise their imagination with decorative shapes and lines. Your child can practice geometry by getting creative with triangles, circles, rectangles, and other shapes to make specially decorated petals and flower types. This project is a fantastic way to practice watercolor techniques while celebrating color and nature!
What You Need:
- Watercolor paper
- Watercolor paints
- Paintbrush
- Paper towels
- Scissors
- Glue
- Pom-poms in various colors
- Pencil
What You Do:
- Have your child draw some large flower petals on the watercolor paper. Does your child want to get creative with the petal shapes?
- Next, cut out the petal and trace it seven times on the same sheet of watercolor paper so you have a total of eight petal shapes.
- Paint some water on four of the petals, and blot two of the wet petals with a paper towel.
- Now paint all the petals with watercolor paints, making each one a different color.
- Encourage your child to decorate each petal with a unique pattern. Consider polka dots, diagonal stripes, triangles, squares and squiggles. Then allow the petals to dry completely.
- Using four different colors, paint the remaining petals. Look how much more control you have over the paint! Try inventing a new pattern for each petal. Allow these petals to dry.
- On the watercolor paper, draw a large circle that’s about 6 inches wide and cut it out to create the base of your flower.
- Cut out all of the petals and arrange them on top of the circle base, so they are touching and evenly spaced.
- Glue them in place on the circle and allow them to dry completely.
- Have your child dip one pom-pom at a time in a small amount of white glue and place it in the center of the flower. She can use as many colors as she would like until it looks finished!
